How to Move Fragile Goods

movers in Langley

When the time to move comes, fragile goods need extra care. The things that you consider delicate need special considerations. Wrapping and packing determine the safety of fragile goods while on transit. This means that you need to invest more time and resources in packing them. Good Place Moving Langley movers help when you need to move fragile stuff.

Many fragile items are easy to break. They also go for lofty prices in the market. Things like porcelain, glassware, vases, frames, mirrors, and sculptures can be transported safely. You just need the right equipment and you’ll be good to go. Below are some of the tips that Good Place Moving Langley movers offer you to move fragile things.

Packing

The most important step in moving fragile goods is the packing process. You not only need the know-how but you also need the right packing materials. Get boxes of different sizes. You can pack goods in small containers and then put them in large boxes. The boxes should be special such that they can give cushion to the fragile goods. A material lining inside will do this. You can improvise by putting cotton inside the boxes. The boxes should not have large spaces remaining inside. Pack them well so that goods don’t move from side to side when Good Place Moving Langley movers transport them.

Wrapping

Each fragile item should have a wrapping all around it. This is done to avoid damage from other goods as they jostle during transportation. Special wrapping materials are available in the market. If you don’t get them, at least use something like an old newspaper. Doing this does a lot in terms of protecting the goods. Porcelain goods are known to break when they are exposed to extremes of weather. Take good care of them particularly if going to a place with a drastic change in the weather. You may need to let the goods stay in a room for sometime before unpacking. This will allow them to adapt to the new weather.

Securing the Goods

It is not enough to wrap the goods. Before loading the trucks from Good Place Moving Langley movers you need to secure them well. Seal tapes can prove handy in securing fragile goods. Simply stack the fragile items together while ensuring that you have a buffer in between. Tape them together into position and then put them into boxes. This will achieve good structural stability in the whole load. If you do a good job, the goods will reach their destination with their quality preserved. As professional movers, Good Place Moving Langley movers can help you in the packing process. In fact, if you are not sure about something, always let a professional do it. You may end up spending some extra money but it will save you from more serious loss.

The Stacking Order

Heavy stuff should always stay at the bottom. It does not matter how much they are worth. This should be the rule of thumb in moving. You may be tempted to place expensive things on top of cheaper things. You won’t experience any problem if they observe the stacking order. The center of gravity rises if you stack heavy goods on top of lighter ones. This is not safe. The goods will topple over at the slightest chance. Pack the boxes well and slide them to the bottom of the bigger container. As you continue to fill the big container, you may realize that spaces form in between. These should be filled with things like bubble wraps of pieces of clothing.

Mirrors and Frames

Every fragile good has a way that it should be packed. For frames and mirrors, look for narrow boxes. Avoid fitting many mirrors into one box. It is important to wrap each mirror separately. Before putting them together into a box, separate each mirror or frame. You can use clothes, crumpled paper, or spongy material as a cushion between the mirrors. Larger frames and mirrors need boxes with enough space. Once you have wrapped them, Good Place Moving Langley movers can use a moving blanket to offer more protection. Heavy fragile goods should not be put together with light fragile goods. The heavier goods will end up damaging the lighter ones.

Unusually Shaped Goods

Nothing is too difficult to move. With Good Place Moving Langley movers, even the funny shaped goods can be prepared for transit. This includes sculptures and figurines. The only difference between these goods and the regular goods is that you will need more input to wrap and pack. Because of their shape, they need even more special considerations. Some areas will be prone to damage due to stress. The weight of the structures gets concentrated more in some areas. These are the places you need to look out for to avoid damages. Apply extra reinforcement to such areas. The rest is simple. Once you have addressed the special areas, just wrap and cushion them like any other fragile good.

Label the Goods Properly

If you are moving your entire household, you need to be careful with fragile goods. Label them clearly as fragile. This ensures that they are handled appropriately. There should be no provision for errors. Simply putting these fragile goods in the upside down position can wreak havoc. Therefore, be meticulous with labeling. Let the handlers know exactly what they are dealing with. Good Place Moving Langley movers could use bright stickers if you have them. Shouting colors should be enough to send a warning signal that someone is dealing with fragile items. Less fragile goods should not be put near fragile ones. Neither should they be stacked together. Compartmentalize your move so that you provide for safe transport of fragile stuff.

You don’t have to worry over how to move you fragile goods from one place to another. Good Place Moving Langley movers get this covered for you. Even more important is that your goods will not lose value. There is no need to sell what you cherish. The relics and antiques will be part of your new home. Their location is the only thing that will change. Get to move your household as a complete unit without any worries.

Moving with your Pet

Langley moving company

When you are moving your home, you want to maintain the environment you have been used to. This includes your pet, man’s best friend. For some people, pets are part of their families. Leaving behind your pet is like leaving your last born child. It is not only uncomfortable but it can also inconvenience you. As Good Place Moving Company, your best of Langley movers, we help you move with your pet. We cover your entire Langley moving needs.

Pet Tips

Moving from one place to another with your pets can be tricky if you are not prepared. You can explain to someone the need to move to another place. Unfortunately, pets cannot understand that. It is upon you to ensure that you make your pet comfortable. You do this by giving them a transition from your current home to the new home. It should be slow enough to allow the pet to adapt to the changes. This means that you should plan your move very well. Allocate enough time to your Langley movers to make all the necessary arrangements. This will make the shift easy and feasible.

Introducing the New Surroundings

Animals get intimidated easily. A new environment or a new face can cause them to behave abnormally. This can lead to the loss of the personal interactions you are used to having with your pet. Before the move, take the pet to familiarize with the new environment. You can begin by visiting parks and public places. Watch the pet closely to pick any signs of distress. Calm the pet and let them explore the area by themselves. This will build their confidence. As they see and experience the new environment, they get used to the place. Your pet may actually like the new environment if you do a great job.

Take the Pet Slowly

Sometimes you just have a slow day. Even your pet won’t get out of the car. Don’t rush them as this will spoil it for both you and Langley movers. There is no reason to really rush. Think of creative activities that you can do with your pet. Show your pet some love. You shouldn’t get stressed over a small issue. Tolerate your pet knowing that they are allowed to act like babies. Let the welfare of your pet come first. If it is still uncomfortable for the animal, consider giving more time. Things usually get better with time.

Preparing for the Journey

The journey should be pet-friendly. Otherwise, you’ll have to deal with issues of dehydration and pet discomfort. Remember that the pet won’t tell you that they need a break. So, ask the Langley movers to provide for breaks during which the animal can eat and have some bathroom break. This is part of the transition. The best you can do for the pet is to ensure that they are absolutely comfortable during the journey. This may be tricky especially if you are traveling over long distances. However, it is still achievable if you plan well ahead.

Making the Trip Tolerable

In case you have never traveled with a pet before, you will need to do some research. It doesn’t have to be a complex one. Simply find out if there are hotels that are pet-friendly. Look for a route that is likely to be more comfortable. You may be forced to take a longer route to achieve appropriate pet comfort. If extended travel is troublesome to you, it is also difficult for the pet. When you need a break, be sure that your pet most likely needs one too. You should think on behalf of the pet and make every effort to create a smooth ride.

The Pet is Special

There are special needs that need to be addressed when it comes to moving with pets. If you have more than one pet, the needs may be even more diverse. A canine may need to have a special box for transport. A feline may simply sit at the back seat and you are good to go. A bird will definitely need a cage and may need to be covered. Ask the vet if you are unsure. You could also check online and find out how the Langley movers can transport the pet.

Visit the Vet

It is important that your pet gets vaccinated to prevent disease. Find out the diseases that the animal is likely to acquire in the new place. It is advisable to pay the vet a visit. This is a chance to check the health of the pet. It is also a moment where you can get a new connection with another vet in the new location. The animal should be in a good condition fit for travel before you make the move. The vet will give recommendations and advice on the fitness of the pet.

Settling in

After long hours of traveling from one place to another, Langley movers want you to settle quickly. Make room for your pet in a place where it will not be attacked by wild animals. For the first few days, don’t let your pet venture into the surroundings unattended to. It may get lost and you won’t be in a position to help it. Only leave the pet to roam around when you are sure that the place is safe and secure. With time, the pet will get used to the new environment. You might have to do some toilet training because of the change in environment.

Pet Supplies

The final part of getting ready to live your normal life in the new area is to identify where you can get pet supplies. Find the pet store using your phone map app. It is that easy. You will get different suggestions. Choose the store that will be most convenient for you. Visit the store and buy enough food supplies and any other things that you pet use. The pet should not lose weight or get sick because you have changed the environment.

What is still holding you back? Good Place Moving Langley movers will help you move and settle with your pet.

The feeling of being overwhelmed with duties can bring stress. Understand that it is normal to feel a bit overwhelmed. However, don’t let this get the better of you. Avoid the cause of this overwhelming feeling by delegating some duties. Sharing of responsibilities helps to half the stress. Give yourself a break and do yoga or meditations. Sort out issues like where you will be staying before your new home is ready. This will make you feel confident about the move.

Don’t be in a hurry to move

Unless it is very necessary that you move in short notice, you don’t have a reason to stress yourself. A big move needs time. You need to plan well and set everything ready. • Contacting your Maple Ridge moving company for a quote
  • Acquiring all the things you need to move like boxes, wrappers, the seal tape
  • Doing the wrapping and packing
  • Setting the tentative moving dates
  • Getting someone to connect power, gas, and cable at the new house

Downsizing

It is a lot easier to move when you have downsized. It may seem like a little thing to do but it has an impact. Try to fit all things together into one truck. This is why you need to involve the Maple Ridge moving company. If you think that they can’t be transported in one trip, the solution is to downsize. The value of an item can guide you when deciding what to do away with and what to retain. You should have figured out also how much space your new house has. There is no point transporting several sets of couches only to find out that they can’t all fit in the living room.

Loading the Truck

Big moves need a lot of calculation. You need to create enough space that allows you to move your goods. A clever way of doing this is to fit some goods into cupboards, drawers, and stuff that have space inside. You can also distribute clothes into huge containers loaded with other things. They will act as a cushion and will not have to take up space in another container. Work out where the things that don’t fit can go to.

Hiring a Storage Space

Ensure that you have a solution to everything. For instance, if you can’t stand parting with your goods, you can hire out some storage space. This way, you don’t have to sell or throw them away. You buy time until you can afford to come for them. Sort out the things that you absolutely need to start life in the new house. The rest of the things can wait inside a warehouse.

Call on a professional

We may want to do things on our own but what happens when you get stuck? You should call on a professional from the Maple Ridge moving company to deal with things. A Quick Guide to Moving Abroad

So, you are moving abroad. It must be an exciting time for you!

But, if you are like most people, you are also stressed out, as preparing for life across the borders requires much more planning than moving houses inside your country.

Knowing how difficult it must be for you to keep all things in check, we have created a comprehensive list of everything you need to do to ensure a smooth and trouble-free move and set the basis for great expat life.

Let’s dive in.

The Most Important of All: Documents

You can forget your favorite piece of clothing, you can get a package lost on its way, but one thing you have to be sure of is that you have with you all the needed documents and permissions to start a new life at the country of your choosing.

Collect all the important documents like your medical records and proof of vaccinations, your birth certificate, your diplomas, and any other professional certificates you might have obtained in your life.

Also, check the expiry date of your passport. If it is about to expire any time soon, get a new one, to save yourself the trouble of flying home just to get one, once it expires.

Most importantly of all, obtain a long-term visa. Depending on your reason for the move, you will need to apply for a different type of visa – work, business, tourist visa and so on.

Make sure that each person that you move with has done the same document check as you did.

Change Your Mailing Address

Another thing you need to do is to ensure that all future information reach you.

The easiest way to do this is to re-route your mail to some family member who stays in your country or a trusted friend.

Although you might want to re-route it to yourself, to your new address abroad, many companies and government services require you to have an address inside the country of your citizenship (even if it is not the address you stay at) and will not send you mail abroad.

Find a Place to Stay

If you are not moving abroad because of work in a company that gives you a place to stay as you sign the contract with them, you will have to take care of your accommodation yourself.

There are basically two ways to go about this: you can either rent an apartment online, before you actually arrive in the new country, or you can book an Airbnb or a ho(s)tel, and explore the local real-estate market in person.

As a rule of thumb, it is better to see the place you rent before you sign the lease, as there are many cases where the pictures of the place you see online do not match the actual condition of the apartment.

Bear in mind that you will spend a lot of time in the new apartment, so it is better to spend a little more at the beginning, by staying in a hostel or an Airbnb for a couple of days, but be sure that the place you rent really suits your needs.

Cancel Memberships

You probably do not want to pay for things you don’t use, so before jumping on the plane, cancel all memberships in your country, such as phone plans or cable tv.

Let your contacts know that they will no longer be able to reach you at the old phone number, and email them an update once you get a new number.

Take Care of the Bank Factor

Your international expenditures, especially if they are unusually big (and since you are just moving somewhere you will need more money than usual at least the first month or two), can cause banks to raise an alarm and block your cards.

So, pick up the phone and call your bank, to ensure that your credit and debit cards are fully functional when you move. The last thing you need is to be locked out of your account, when you need money the most.

Money, Money, Money, Must Be Funny

Oh, and while we are at the topic of money, you also need to take care of two things:

First, check whether your current cards have a foreign transaction fee. If they do, get one that has no fees of this type.

And second, carry some emergency cash with you. There are countries that have particular services that do not accept payments made with a card. Make sure that the cash you carry is in some broadly accepted currency such as dollars, euros or pounds.

Avoid Being Locked Out of Social Media

Logging in from another country or device can cause social media such as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram to lock you out as well.

To avoid this, set a two-factor authentication, so you can confirm your identity even when you are logging in from an unusual place.

Get Last-Minute Check-Ups

Once you quit your current job, you will no longer have a dental, vision and general health insurance. So, before you get taken off the list, make appointments to check everything.

Also, some countries ask for various vaccinations (Asian and African countries in particular), so check if you have received all necessary vaccines.

Don’t Forget About Your Taxes

It’s easy to forget about your taxes once you move to a different place, so set a reminder to stop you from forgetting to do the taxes the following year.

Time to Pack!

Time to pack your belongings! But where do you start?

Moving abroad does not allow you to take everything you own with you. The bigger the distance, the harder it is to take a lot with you. Check how many checked-in bags your airline allows. Go to the post office, and find out about the prices of mailing a package. Many times, mailing part of your belongings, instead of buying another suitcase with the airline will be cheaper or at least more convenient.

In any case, here are some of the things you have to pack:

  • Clothes and Accessories. Check the weather forecast and general weather trends at the destination country, and pack according to what you find out. Essential clothes include: undergarments, socks, towels, a few pairs of shoes, a couple of shirts, sweaters, and pants, some of your favorite accessories, a light jacket, a coat, at least one formal outfit, and a bathing suit. That should be enough to get you started – and everything else, you can buy as you go.
  • Toiletries. Generally speaking, you should not fill up your bags with toiletries, as you can buy them as soon as you arrive at your destination country. However, if you are used to using specific brands that you are certain you will not be able to find at the destination country, go ahead and pack them in your bags.
  • Other. Pack your documents, your camera, an adapter, a portable charger, your favorite book (or your Kindle!), your laptop.

And voila! Just like that, you’re ready to move!

Office Moves Made Easy

Surrey moving company

No two moves can ever be the same. Office moves are way different from house moves. Some companies can only do some types of moves. In that case, you might have to hire more than one company if you have multiple moving needs. Good Place Moving Company is your Surrey moving company with different packages. We do a range of moves including household moves and office moves. We will help you from the start to the end of the moving process. For a start, here are some tips when handling office moves.

Early Planning

Office moves require a lot of things to be put into consideration. You’ll need to coordinate employees and make sure that you do an equipment check and paperwork. This requires you to plan ahead of time. In fact, if you think that you are not yet fully ready, you may have to wait until everything is set. Otherwise, your office move will be hectic. Begin by letting your staff and clients know that you plan to move. This way, they can adjust themselves appropriately. You don’t want to lose customers in the moving frenzy.

Solve Problems as they arise

When you are decided on making the move, solve problems as early as in the planning process. Think of potential issues that can occur and find solutions for them. For instance, you should begin to work out a new mail address. Don’t wait until the problem brings loses in the firm is when you begin to act. Figure out how you can make the move smooth. Involve the necessary stakeholders in the planning process. Some difficult problems can have simple solutions coming from someone you least expect. Avoid doing everything alone as it can be difficult to foresee some problems singlehandedly.

Go Professional

You may have made local arrangements and moved your house items successfully in the past. However, the dynamics of office moves are quite different. It is time you sought professional help. If you want to move to Surrey or its surrounding, Good Place Moving can help out. Office moves need coordination. This is what you get when you hire a professional mover. The workers from the moving company will ensure that your office furniture remains safe. Any underestimations will be reevaluated if you have professional hands working on the gig. You will also benefit from the tools that the mover offers.

Distribute Tasks

The office team should help you when moving. You don’t have to pack their desks. Let the staff handle that for you. The benefit of doing this is to ensure that no one complains that their stuff got misplaced. They can just pack and let the professional mover do the rest. The heavy lifting should be handled using appropriate equipment. Most moving companies have their own forklifts to tackle such tasks. If they don’t have, they can hire them from someone else. Your duty is to ensure that boxes are carefully labeled. Even as you pack, remember that you will eventually have to unpack.

Hold People Responsible

It feels good when your manager trusts you with something. Assign your staff with different responsibilities. Let them report their progress. Use all the gathered information to make a moving plan. No one should feel left out. Be as inclusive as possible. You could have some people watching over an entire department. Others can have a subcategory specially set for them. Depending on your workforce, you can choose to either split or combine some departments. Be the one making these decisions to avoid confusion. Several things can run at the same time.

Make a Good Budget

Part of the planning process is budgeting. Ensure that you have organized finances well. An office move can turn into a large-scale operation. You don’t want to get stuck at financing the move. Get every aspect factored in. don’t assume that packing material is not significant to budget for. Even the cost of removal should form your budget. Consider the cost incurred for canceling utilities. Make provision for the loss of productivity while on the move. When you are done with your budget, add some money for miscellaneous needs.

Use Quality Packing and Wrappings

Financial constraints can make you think of cheap packing alternatives. This is not advisable when doing an office move. You want to make sure that you move things without getting them damaged. They should be ready to work in the new destination. Sacrifice and acquire good wrapping and packing materials. You can buy metal boxes if you will need to move frequently. Alternatively, you can choose to hire some packing containers and return them after use. The goal is to ensure that you preserve the quality of your office goods.

Upgrade

There is no better time to upgrade your office as when moving. The people who are resistant to change won’t mind if it is done during a move. You don’t have to transport the things that you no longer need. This adds up the moving cost for no good reason. Sell them or donate them. Let the moving company move only what you need. New furniture can be transported by the company selling them. This is a great hack to saving a lot of money at your convenience. You achieve two things at the same time- moving and upgrading.

Time the Move

Your moving plan should have a time limit. Move everything within this time. To avoid feeling as if you are not on the schedule, set enough time for the move. A couple of days to move should be enough. Even so, don’t be too strict. You will get your staff worked up and they may end up needing a sick leave. You can extend the deadline if there is a need.

Work on Your Destination

As you move, have you figured out the floor space in the new office? Good Place Moving will help you determine how the items will fit in the new office. The final destination can guide you on what to sell and what to buy while on the move. If everything follows a plan, be sure to enjoy your office move.

How to Unpack Stuff When Moving

Moving has many aspects. Unpacking can be quite a challenge. You have just arrived at your new home and everything is in a container. You don’t know where to start. As a moving company, Good Place Moving understands your needs. If you are in need of Abbotsford movers, we’ve got you covered. Here are some tips for you when unpacking.

Have a Plan

Planning is the most important part of unpacking. You should plan the entire moving process ahead of time. Therefore, when wrapping and preparing to pack things, remember that you will eventually need to unpack them. You don’t have to be too complicated. Neither do you need to pack carelessly. Both extremes of packing make unpacking difficult. Make sure that you put similar things in the same package. This is to avoid the mayhem of looking for your toothbrush while turning things all over the place.

Make a Checklist

You can’t afford to mess up anything. Things can get mixed up if you don’t have a systematic way of doing things. Begin the checklist in a larger perspective such as listing big boxes and their designated rooms. To do this, you should have a catalog of the things you have moved. This way, you won’t misplace anything. The unpacking process will be orderly. Failure to do your unpacking systematically will lead to double ups and retarded progress. Use a mental map to ensure that you got everything covered. Avoid situations where things are not distributed well in the available rooms. One room ends up being overcrowded while another remains empty.

Step by Step

It is not enough to have a great checklist. You need to use it well. Set targets and try to achieve them in time. A timeframe in which you must complete your entire unpacking is important to keep you on toes. The process may be tiring but if you have targets you get motivated. There are times when you will need to increase the frequency of working. Always maintain an orderly fashion of doing the unpacking. Resist the temptation to jumble up things by trying to unpack multiple boxes at the same time. It may seem like a great idea but it will only confuse you and ruin your day.

Have Breaks

You can’t work all day without resting. If you do, you become ineffective. In your unpacking plan, make provisions for breaks. During this time, you can think about what you have achieved so far and make the necessary changes. Polish on areas you think you have not done well to stay ahead of schedule. This is the time to grab a snack or simply rest. When you get back to work, you will be rejuvenated. Don’t make the breaks too lengthy. It will only serve to suck more of your energy. The breaks should serve their purpose of relaxing you from rigorous work. Sometimes you just need a break and it is not yet time for a break. Take the rest and compensate by working extra time.

Use Appropriate Equipment

Burnouts during the unpacking process come from the use of inappropriate tools. You spend all your energy on unnecessary tasks such as battling with seal tapes. Assemble all the necessary tools before you start unpacking. You will need scissors, dust bins, box cutters, and many more tools. Good Place Moving Company can handle your unpacking for you. It may sound obvious but these little things can hamper the unpacking. For instance, the entire process can end up being a mess if you don’t have garbage bins around. If you have everything set, you can have the best unpacking ever.

The Unpacking Categories

To help you out, here are some categories to use in grouping your things.

Kitchenware

You can choose to start unpacking from any container. The crucial thing to observe is order. Unpack all that you will need in the kitchen. This includes all the instruments and utensils that are usually found in your kitchen. Pots, pans, crockery, and pantry will go to the kitchen. If there are some items that you use during special occasions, store them also in the kitchen. Plug the electronics like refrigerators. They should be ready for normal routines.

Washroom

You can choose to go next to your bathroom essentials. Include all the toiletries for all family members. Set the bathroom so that it is usable. You may need to do some cleaning first with antiseptics and disinfectants if someone else was using the house. Put towels in place and check that everything is working. You will need a shower after the unpacking. Make sure to have everything you need for a couple of days before you go for formal shopping.

Bedroom

Don’t unpack things and still sleep at the couch. The bedrooms should be among the top of the list of unpacking. Begin with the bedroom furniture such as beds and racks. This is the place where you will certainly need a hand and Good Place Moving is willing to help. Check that the bed is firmly fixed before you place bedding on top. Other things like arranging the wardrobe can wait for later. The best you can do for a start is to bring suitcases containing clothes into the room.

Finalizing the Unpacking

When every room has its must-haves, you can do the division of labor amongst family members. Let each family member do their unpacking as they wish in their rooms. When everyone is comfortable, you can now shift your focus to garages and stores.

Don’t Postpone

The benefits of unpacking everything are many. You may never get another opportunity to do the rest of unpacking. Busy work schedules won’t allow you. For this reason, don’t postpone unpacking. Until you finish unpacking, you will not fell at home. You will find it difficult to get some things when you need them. The earlier you finish doing everything the better you stay becomes in the new home.
